Frequently Asked Questions:
How many orphans are there in India?
Out of 1.3 billion people living in India, 22 million are orphans.
Why are there so many orphans?
Families which have been divided by the loss of one parent through death or other means is the primary cause. The remaining parent is often either unwilling or unable to provide for the children.  The estranged  parent will sell the children to survive, send them to an orphanage or  simply abandon them to the streets. There is a shortage of orphanages and a lot are so bad, the children would rather live on the streets.
What will happen to the children if nobody wants them?
The children may be sold into sex trafficking as early as four years old or they work in factories doing child labor as early as seven and they will be forced to beg for food, clothes, and places the sleep.
How many Christians are in India?
Of the 1.3 billion people living in India, only 2.3% are Christians. Currently there is an estimated 500,000 villages which are still unreached with the gospel of Jesus.
Do Christians face persecution there?

Yes. When someone turns to Jesus they face being shunned from their families and friends, being murdered and beaten. They may lose their jobs even.

What are the common religions?

According to the 2001 census, 80.5% are Hindu. Islam (13.4%), Chrisitianity (2.3%), Sikhism (1.9%), Buddhism (0.8%) and Jainism (0.4%) are the other major religions practiced in India.
